In our previous post, we mentioned there were five big life changes, which caused you to reevaluate your W4 form. Keep reading to find out what they are, and how to get the most out of your W4 form.

These changes cause your taxes to rise or fall depending upon the circumstance. They are:
  1. You get a second job.
  2. Your spouse gets a job or changes jobs.
  3. You're unemployed for part of the year.
  4. You get married or divorced.
  5. You have a baby or adopt one.

We see a lot of people making mistakes on their W-4 form, which causes them problems with their taxes. If you have had any of these changes in your life this year, it’s easy to make sure your taxes will be in order if you simply make adjustments to your W-4 Withholding Form. You can do it the old fashion way, with a paper form, or use the IRS Withholding Calculator. Simply click this link for access to the calculator. From there, follow the instructions and answer the questions--it’s that simple.  You may also write the actual amount you want deducted on Line 6 (Additional Withholdings) of the W-4 form.

Stay on top of your withholdings! It will benefit you in the long run.
